Biography

Pierrot Desperes is a sound artist, field recordist and musician living in St. Louis, Missouri.  He creates sound works utilizing his own field recordings collected from the Midwest of the United States.  Inspired by the history of the area he explores and artifacts discovered on his journey, he fabricates sonic narratives to reimagine a soundscape.  In his works he not only uses unprocessed field recordings but also sounds mixed on a sonic palette using granular synthesis.

Tracks from his works have been broadcast internationally on the Framework program on Resonance FM, London, United Kingdom, and the Wanderlust program on Cashmere Radio, Berlin, Germany.  In North America tracks have been broadcast on Local Harvest and Universal Default, KDHX, St. Louis, Missouri, Weird World, KJHK, Lawrence, Kansas, Institute of Spectra-Sonic Sound, KEPW, Eugene, Oregon and Ears Have Eyes, CJSW, Calgary, Canada.  His field recordings have also been broadcast on Framework, requested for inclusion in a French sound library and selected for use in a German experimental film.  As a musician he has performed on fiddle and mandolin in old-time, bluegrass, jug band and gypsy jazz styles.
